Help: Performance: PC Users
When you're playing on PC, you have a lot more memory, and running an Instant Messenger shouldn't interfere unless you're on a slow dial-up connection. But you have a more complicated system, so here's where to look if there are problems on the PC.

Internet Explorer

Most of our games run on Internet Explorer, although there are a few that are WebTV-only. If games run slowly, or there are problems, here are the steps to take:
  • Restart your browser, or reboot your PC. IE can sometimes just hang. The best first aid for any Microsoft product is to reboot the machine, or at least, close all your browser windows and restart.

  • Clear your browser cache. On the top menu bar, select Tools -> Internet Options. Under the General tab, in the Temporary Internet Files section, select Delete Files. If you have a very large cache (you can see how large under "settings") it may take several minutes. Then close all windows of your browser and restart it.
  • Use the entry pages, and don't reload to restart a game. The game index pages have tricks for PC users, too, to get the graphics you need in your cache before the game starts. In Internet Explorer, if the graphics aren't there before the game needs them, if doesn't cache them properly and you'll end up downloading multiple copies of them as you play (which may have been why you had to clear your cache). If you reload the page, it reloads all of the graphics and causes the same problem. Instead, to replay, use the New Game button or exit and choose the game again so the graphics don't have to reload.
